Consultant or director?
If you're not ready to appoint an IT expert to your board, or want to trial my services first, I can provide advice as a consultant.
Some of the differences between the two roles are:
Consultant | Director | |
---|---|---|
Attends board meetings | By invitation only | Yes |
Votes in board meetings | No | Yes |
Shareholder | No | Sometimes |
Manages staff | No | Sometimes |
Fees payment | Invoice (gross of tax) | PAYE (net of tax) |
Tax reporting | Consultant via self-assessment | Company via PAYE |
Strategy | Feeds into via advice | Actively drives |
Whilst it is possible to provide consultancy services alongside a directorship, to avoid any confusion or challenges from HMRC I will only provide services as a consultant or a director, not both.
