UKUUG

The UK Unix Users' Group (UKUUG) was a membership organisation for IT professionals which held several annual conferences of varying sizes.

As chairman, I took the organisation through a rebranding to FLOSS UK, which was intended to move away from the old 'Unix' name and be more welcoming to new attendees. We also widened our range of events, keeping the existing ones which had been popular whilst launching an unconference to attract a new audience.

I also served as interim treasurer for a brief period when the existing treasurer stepped down and we were waiting to appoint a permanent replacement.

Whilst chairman and treasurer, I was a director of UKUUG Ltd and counter-signed the monthly cheques.

I was the lead organiser and conference chair for the flagship Spring Conference in 2009, 2010 and 2011 (the conference chair and the organisational chair were separate roles and not always held by the same person).

Seven years after I stepped down, the COVID pandemic caused all the organisation's events to be cancelled, and it was dissolved in 2026.
