University of Manchester
The University of Manchester is one of the largest universities in the UK. As well as studying, I also worked for the University in several positions.
Software Support Officer
As Software Support Officer I was available to students for face to face support on any aspect of software related to their Computer Science degree, as well as any related extracurricular activities. I was also responsible for building and maintaining internal teaching infrastructure as part of a small team.
I was trusted to supervise laboratory sessions which were assessed as part of the degree programmes. Sometimes this would be requested at short notice, such as to cover for an academic who was ill.
My staff key would open most doors in the Computer Science building, and I had access to a number of critical computer systems.
Teaching Assistant
When studying for my MPhil degree, I worked as a Teaching Assistant in the student laboratories. This included helping with student questions, marking work (which formed part of the students' formal assessment), and reporting any suspected cases of plagiarism.
